Personal Information

Who is the owner of this blog?

Personal Information
I am 26 years old man. lives in Brunei Muara.

Education background

I graduated from the University of New South Wales Australia in BEng. in Petroleum Engineering in July 2013. In 2009 I pursued my study at the Institut Teknologi Brunei for a year before commencing to the UNSW.

Working experience
I used to work in a Conventional bank (Baiduri Bank) and Islamic Investment Banking- BIBD for a year each.

In 2011, I had 3 months industrial internship with Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP). It was such an interesting learning period for me which provided me with exposure on some real work in the industry.

Post University plan

After completing my Bachelor Degree, I planned to pursue my study to Master level. I was offered a place at the University of Manchester for Msc in Petroleum Geoscience which was supposed to start in September 2013. Unfortunately, I was granted with a Government Scholarship at a later time only- which is  after the due date to accept the offer. Hence, I had to give up the scholarship and focused with my other plan- to become a Petroleum field engineer.

Career paths

Interviews--> Job offers --> Magicball-->Working

Interviews + job offers

September 2013
I had  Shell Recruitment Day (SRD) assessment at the Centrepoint Gadong from 6am to 5pm. There was 3 phases for this interview: role play, Board of Director meeting and technical Interview. I  believed I performed badly for the Role Player part; this was due lack of preparation. I was informed that I will receive the result of the interview 3 weeks after the interview. Unfortunately, 4 weeks after the interview, I still yet to receive the result. I sent an email, unfortunately I received no reply to date. I assumed I failed the SRD and they don't want to hurt my feeling to tell the truth.

October 2013

1) I flied to Kuala Lumpur to have an interview with the Halliburton Cementing Country Manager for Brunei placement. We were welcomed by our driver at KL airport to the BMW ( such a cool feeling and experience).  I (and my friend) received an instant offer to work with the company starting December 2013. Unfortunately, my friend received a better offer from another company so he rejected it. At a later time, I followed his step to reject the offer due to a better offer from well known company.

2) I had an interview with Weatherford- I rejected the offer due to several reasons.

November 2013

1) I had a phone interview and Online English test from Baker Hughes- But received no interest from them afterwards. My friend who received an invitation to the interview told me 6 Field Engineers position was on offered. The 2 days assessment was run in December where 20 candidates was invited out of 200 applicants recieved.

2) I also had an unscheduled phone interview with Schlumberger on the 8th. After passing the phone interview and screening, I was invited for a proper interview with the manager in Kuala Belait on the 11th. It was a tough, informative, interesting and fun interview. I was informed that I passed the interviewed and I received an offer letter 2 days after my interview.

MagicBall

Naah, I didn't use magicball to help me in deciding which offer shall I go for.

To tell the truth, it was a tough decision to choose between Halliburton and Schlumberger. Both are well known oil service companies and both had prons and cons. I actually asked several opinions - mum, siblings, friends besides praying Istikarah- Asking for Allah' guidance. Alhamdulilah, after that I received better feeling which one to pick. I will discuss about this on a separate post.. Insha Allah

Please pray for a success in my career which will give me anjakan paradikma to work for my hereafter more... Ameen...(Same goes to you too)
