The Oil&Gas Journal report stated that Lukut-1 was deepened to 2,230m to assess a zone of interest between 2,130-210m. Lukut-1 is the first onshore well drilled in Brunei over the past 24 years with an original target depth of 2,150m.
The company said that in-hole gas measurements made during wireline logging have confirmed the find across a number of intervals and that currently, analysis of the results continues.
"Lukut-1 also intersected other unpredicted zones of interest at the new total depth and these are now being evaluated with a view to deepening the welI further still," the online report stated.
The well was planned as an evaluation of shallow-water delta front sands in the "very prospective" Belait formation.
AED's second location called Lempuyang-1 on the same block is planned as an immediate follow-up.
Just eight days ago, AED Southeast Asia Ltd in a press release said that it had "intersected possible reservoirs".
In a session with Cutong residents who live near the drilling site four months ago, Zulasmin Noor, AED's procurement and contracts officer, said the Lukut-1 well will be drilled in the second week of April until the middle of May and Lempuyang-1 well, from the second week of June until August.
Trevor Slater, AED country manager, in a previous interview said that this is an exploration well and they are in the first stage where they drill wells to identify hydrocarbons which may have either oil or gas, or both. "After that, we go through the process of evaluating the quality of reserve or resource then develop some form of feasibility study and a pre-development plan," he said.

Slater added that this exploration stage, if successful, might lead to other drilling and future plans. "The seismic was done last year, and the first part of the exploration process is to identify the targets and suitable areas for drilling," he said.
AED has a 50 per cent interest and operator-ship in Block L, which lies 20km from the billion-barrel Seria oil and gas field. The recently discovered Bubut gas field is on an adjoining block. Kulczyk Oil Ventures and QAF Brunei are the other two shareholders of Block L.
Brunei's economy has been solely reliant on the oil and gas industry for the past 80 years with hydrocarbon resources accounting for over 90 per cent of the Sultanate's exports and more than 50 per cent of its gross domestic product.

Report 2
Bandar Seri Begawan - The presence of hydrocarbons discovered in Lukut-1, the first exploration well to be drilled under Brunei National Petroleum Company's (PetroleumBRUNEI) Block L, has revealed that there is a high-potential reservoir underneath the onshore exploration field in the Tutong District.
According to www.pennenergy.com, the AED Oil Ltd has confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in its Lukut-1 wildcat well, which was drilled on onshore Block L in Brunei.
The company said that hole gas measurements made during wireline logging have confirmed the find across a number of intervals.

depth and these are now being evaluated with a view to deepening the well further.
Lukut-1 is the first well to be drilled in Block L since the block was gazetted as a designated area of the national oil company. It's also the first onshore drilling undertaken by Brunei National Petroleum Company since 24 years ago.
The Lukut-1 well is designed to test the geological formation to a total well depth of 2125 m MDRT. The rotary table elevation is 11.68 m. All depths will be reported as measured depths from the rotary table (MDRT) unless specified otherwise. The well is being drilled using the Nabors Drilling Rig 503 (Figure 1) and is anticipated to take up to 31 days to complete.(Read more at
AED Oil will move its drilling operation to the second location of Lempuyang in a few days, which is also located in Block L.
On June 2, AED Oil announced that drilling operations at the Lukut-1 well have intersected possible reservoirs.
The Lukut-1 well was spudded on May 2 and is currently within budget and cost estimates. The schedule for completion may vary depending on the outcome of the wire line logging and any subsequent flow testing. --Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
