Further Evaluation Needed At Lukut 1 Well

Bandar Seri Begawan - Further analysis and reservoir evaluation are still required to determine the presence of hydrocarbons in the Lukut 1 well, which is the first onshore well, drilled in Brunei over the past 24 years.

PetroleumBRUNEI Chief Petroleum Engineer Pg Amirrudin Pg Hj Razali said Lukut 1 well would be deepened to 2,300 metres in addition to the installation of liner to assess between 200 and 300 metres underneath for further evaluation. In the case of Block M, two wells will be drilled to identify hydrocarbons and the rig will be transported some time this month to drill the first planned Mawar 1 well with 1,206 metres in depth.
Meanwhile TAP Energy (Borneo) Chief Geophysicist Suni Hj Sulaiman said based on the discovery of hydrocarbons in the Lukut 1 well, a pre-development plan will be conducted and attempts will be made to produce it to the ground and send to the refinery for further processing and trade.
A briefing was held yesterday morning by the PetroleumBRUNEI and TAP Energy to residents of Mukim Bukit Sawat on the upcoming 3D seismic acquisition as part of the oil and gas exploration activities at Block M, which covers an area of 3,011 square kilometres onshore at the Belait District and part of Tutong District.
Awg Suni said about 1,000 foreign workers will be deployed within the allocated areas of the Mukim to perform the works to record the seismic data and determine potential oil and gas well drilling locations. The seismic works is expected to end by early December this year.
Through the briefing, TAP Energy seeks support from villagers to ensure operations can be carried out effectively, timely and safely. The briefing yesterday morning took place at the Sungai Mau multi-purpose hall of the remote Mukim Labi. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
